Walking Unit Entrants

All walking unit entries congregate in the grassy area of the Granada Hills Recreation Center (Petit Park), west of the Library and north of the Park building. Please have your participants remain away from the Library Parking Lot as it is being used as the staging area for our equestrian units – safety is an issue here!

They should also remain out of the streets surrounding the Park as Petit Avenue is the staging area for equestrian and motorized units and Chatsworth Street is the staging area for Band and Drill Teams and vehicles for dignitaries and others.

We have all kinds of units and we have them approach the formation area from different directions for SAFETY reasons, so please assist us in this regard. ALL WALKING ENTRY PARTICIPANTS SHOULD ENTER THE PARADE AREA FROM THE SOUTH END OF PETIT PARK.  ALL DRIVERS SHOULD DROP OFF THEIR PARTICIPANTS AT ONE OF TWO DROP OFF POINT

  • NEAR THE GATE AT THE CORNER OF RUBIO AND CLYMER, OR
  • IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE SOUTH END OF THE PARK.

PARTICIPANTS SHOULD WALK NORTH THROUGH THE PARK TO THE GRASSY AREA DESCRIBED ABOVE. SEE MAP BELOW

IF YOUR VEHICLES ACCESS THE FORMATION AREA FROM ANY OTHER DIRECTION, THEY WILL INTERFERE WITH OTHER TYPES OF PARADE ENTRIES. SAFETY IS OUR UTMOST CONCERN. PLEASE ASSIST US IN THIS REGARD!

PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH ALL PARTICIPANTS IN YOUR UNIT AND ESPECIALLY WITH THOSE DRIVING YOUR WALKERS TO THE FORMATION AREA.

NO VEHICLE THAT IS NOT ACTUALLY IN THE PARADE SHOULD ENTER THE FORMATION AREA, EXCEPT TO DROP OFF PARTICIPANTS AT RUBIO AND CLYMER. THIS MUST OCCUR NO LATER THAN 12:30PM. THOSE DROPPING OFF PARADE PARTICIPANTS MUST IMMEDIATELY LEAVE THE FORMATION AREA – NO EXCEPTIONS.

The Formation Area is defined as: Balboa on the west, Hayvenhurst on the east, Tulsa St on the north and San Jose on the south. THERE IS NO PARKING FOR VEHICLES NOT A PART OF THE PARADE IN THE FORMATION AREA – ONLY THOSE VEHICLES TRAVELING IN THE PARADE WILL BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN THE FORMATION AREA. ANY VEHICLE LEFT UNATTENDED IN THE FORMATION AREA WILL BE TOWED – we have no choice as every inch of the Formation Area will be used for some aspect of the Parade and extraneous vehicles provide both safety and logistical problems.

Check in between 11AM AND 12:30PM at the Chamber Tent in the park (just east of the Library at the northwest corner of the Park) – only one member from each unit need do so.

As indicated, the parade steps off promptly at 1:30pm. Closer to that time, our Walking Entry Coordinators will organize each walking unit in sequence from lowest unit # to highest and line you up along a L shaped corridor in the park bordered by yellow “CAUTION” tape, with the lowest numbered unit at the south sidewalk on Chatsworth Street, just east of Petit Avenue. All aspects of the parade are “formed up” at the intersection of Chatsworth Street and Petit Avenue. The Parade proceeds west from there.

Please review ALL of the rules. Each one exists for a reason (or reasons) – most for safety reasons or to make the parade the best event that it can be. The Parade is for all of us – but especially for the children. Over 3,500 kids will participate in this year’s parade – and over 100,000 children have participated in it over the years.

Thank YOU for your participation – YOU help to “make” the parade.
